Welcome to our latest ATC training cohort from Australia

On Monday 21 July we welcomed our newest cohort of air traffic control students into the Airways Training Centre in Christchurch – coming to us from Airservices Australia.

The Australian air navigation service provider has partnered with Airways International to send cohorts of trainees to Christchurch for air traffic control (ATC) training, following 10 weeks of online training via Airways International’s AKO virtual academy. This latest cohort of six students is the second to come to New Zealand for training – the first cohort graduated in August 2024 before returning to Melbourne for additional training, and then final field training at their new ATC locations.

Having completed 051 Licensing Subjects studies online, our new cohort have now begun ICAO 052 Aerodrome Control training in the TotalControl simulator, before starting their ICAO 053 Approach Control Procedural studies.

We would like to wish this group of students all the best with their training here in New Zealand! Airways International is delighted to be collaborating with Airservices Australia to bring their ATC students to our facilities in New Zealand for training – and to be fostering further connection between our two organisations.

We’re now accepting applications for our ATC training programmes commencing in 2026 and 2027. Please note that the course start dates are yet to be confirmed.
