Meet Millie Farr –Navigation Procedure Designer, based at Airways International’s Aeropath office in Wellington, New Zealand. In this Q&A with Millie, she shares a little about her herself, and about working for Airways International and in the aviation industry.
What do you like most about working at Airways International?
The work we do internationally, and the connections we build, not just in the team but within the industry worldwide would be a highlight of mine.
What initially attracted you to this role, and organisation? There are so many different sectors and departments within aviation and so much to learn – it’s what attracted me to the industry. I studied aviation at Massey and found my way to Airways by chance, accepting a role as a Sim Pilot in Palmerston North. I didn’t know I wanted to be a procedure designer until I started working here and I wouldn’t change a thing. Overall I was drawn in by the knowledge and opportunities within Airways.
What advice would you give someone wanting to start their career in the aviation industry?
Aviation is diverse, there are so many opportunities within the industry, you don’t need to know where you want to end up. You won’t regret the career path, aviation is ever changing, exciting and can lead you to places you never expected.
What moment or achievement are you most proud of?
I would say receiving my wings at Massey was a proud moment of mine. Although I haven’t flown in a few years, I do love dropping that into a conversation as a power move to my non-aviation friends.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I am a creative person and I love keeping myself busy, doing painting, upcycling, or learning a new skill (or trying to). I also personally love to travel, whether it be a holiday down south to see the family and friends or overseas to see the world!
